called kāfi tāzī or kāfi, 'arabī, the Arabian kāf (in contradistinction to the letter gāf, called kāfi 'ajamī, i. e., Persian kāf). It is the twenty second letter of the Arabic alphabet, the twenty-fifth Persian, and twenty-eighth Hindūstānī. It is sounded like our k or c hard, and corresponds to the ka of the Sanskrit. in reckoning by abjad it counts twenty. Afficed to the end of Persian words it forms diminutives or expressions of contempt ; as, mardak, a little man, or one of no value ; ṭiflak, a little child ; this also is an expression of endearment ; as, māmak, dear little mother.
