Dictionary of Manipuri Medical Terms (Manipuri-English)

সনাহীদাক
(Sana-Heedak) : Quick silver or Mercury or Hydrargyrum (Hg) = an element of A.W. 200º 59 and At. No.80 belonging to the selivery white metal in liquid state of r.d. 13.6, m.p. - 39ºc b.p 257ºC. It occurs as cinnabar (HgS) and extracted by roating the ore in a current of air. Used in Thermometers, barometers, manometers and its compounds are poisonous some of which are used in medicines.

সাগুদানা
(Sagudana) : Sago = a nutritive farinaceous substance produced from the pith of Metroxylon and other palms (Arenga, Caryota, Oreodoxa] and cycads (Cycus) or in other words- a starchy grain or powder obtained from the soft pith of sago palm, a staple food in the tropics, and also widely used in desserts. It is used to feed the patients as prescribed as the best nutritive matter/material of patients of various and different diseases and illnesses.

সাপোন
(Sapon) : Soap = an alkaline salt of a higher fatty acid especially a compound of sodium (hard soap) or potassium (soft soap)used in washing.

সেবা
(Seba) : Service = the condition or state of one who serves a patient or the work or performance or act of serving an ill or the wounded/injured person by looking after and caring for him to help/assist in the process and progress of healing/curing the disease.

সেবা তৌবা
(Seba Touba) = (I) Serving = the act of giving/rendering service to an ill/diseased person. (2) Nursing = (I) the act for breast feeding and infant, (II) the act/work of tending and caring of child or sick/injured person(s). (III) the act/service/serving to look after those who need medical care either in the hospital or similar institution or in the patient`s home. (IV) the work/profession of a nurse in her/his nursing service or of being a nurse. Nurse = the person (usually a women/maiden) who look after sick person(s)/people in hospital, etc. or helps a doctor in his surgery. Charge nurse a nurse who is in-charge of a group of patients, a ward or dept. in a hospital. District nurse = a nurse who visits and treats a patient in his home. Excort nurse = nurse who goes with a patient to the operating theatre and back to ward. Home nurse = District nurse. Nurse practitioner = nurse employed in clinic or doctor`s practice who can give advice to patients. Practise nurse = Nurse practitioner. Staff nurse = nurse who is on the permanent staff of a hospital. Theatre nurse = nurse who is specially trained to assist a surgeon during an operation in operating theatre.
