Dictionary of Manipuri Medical Terms (Manipuri-English)

নঙশীল্লবা ঈ
(Nangshillaba Ee): Blood clot = a solid mass formed as a result of the blood coagulation either within the blood cells and heart or elsewhere. A blood clot consists of a meshwork of the protein fibrin ( the final product of the process of blood coagulation, produced by action of enzyme throbin on a soluble precursor fibrinogen) in which various blood cells are trapped.

নঙ্গন
(Nanggan): Back = Dorsum = the part of the body from the neck downwards to the waist which is made of the spine and the bones attached to it. Back Muscles = strong muscles in the back which help to hold the body upright. Back pain = pain in the back. Back strain = condition where the muscles or ligaments in the back have been strained.

নঙ্গন চীকপা
(Nanggan Cheekpa): Backache = the condition of feeling pain in the back. Backache can result from the bad posture or a soft bed or by straining a muscle, but it can also be caused by rheumatism (Lumbago), fevers, such as typhoid fever and osteoarthritis. Pain in back can also be referred pains from gallstones or kidney disease.

নপ
(Nap): Snot = Mucus = Phlegm = Sputum = Slimy fluid/material secreted by mucous membrane and coughed up from the respiratory tract. Its characteristics including colour, consistency, volume, smell and the appearance of any solid material within it often provide important information affecting the diagnosis and management of respiratory disease as it consists of mucin, epithelial cells, leukocytes and various salts suspended in water, Pathological examination of sputum for microorganism and for abnormal cells may add further information.

নপথী
(Nepthee): (I) Bogey = the dried and hardened piece of sputum crusted inside and around/surrounding the nasal opening or exterior opening of nostril. (II) Ear-wax = Cerumen = the wax material secreted by the sebaceous gland in the external auditory meatus of the outer ear. Its function is generally to protect the delicate skin that lines the inside of the meatus (opening : orifice or passage i.e. the ear passage).

নপুংসক
(Napungsak): = Eunuch = a man who has been castrated (to remove the testicles of male person or deprive of vigour/strength) or such a man employed as a guard of a harem (ladies-apartment in a palace or alike yards) in Eastern countries.

নম
(Nam): Back = Dorsum = Nanggan, see Nanggan.

নমথিবা
(Namtheeba): Smelly = shitty = stink = Unpleasant smell = the bad smell of excrement/faeces or offensive/unpleasant smell theat arousen tension, irregulation, etc. of/in a person.

নম-পোনবা
(Nam Ponba): Humpback = Hunchback = (I) the pose/posture on condition/position of excerssive forward curvature of the spine or (II) a person suffering from the excessive forward curvature of the spine.

নম্বোনবা
(Nambonba): = Humback = Namponba, see `Nam-Ponba`
