Dictionary of Manipuri Medical Terms (Manipuri-English)

কিডনী য়াদবা
(Kidney Yadaba) : Kidney failure = complete break down in the function of one on both kidneys. One kidney provided that it is in good condition can usually carryout the work of two if necessary, and for a time. Failure of both, however, demands emergency treatment before poisonous wastes begin to accumulate catastrophically in the body. A dialysis machine (kidney machine) can carry out the same filtration process (working on the principal of osmosis), but requires time in training and in psychological adjustment. If available a kidney transplant is generally the best-opinion.

কিডনীগী লাইনা
(Kidney gee laina) : kidney disease :- Any kind of disorder that affects the tissues or the operation of the kidneys. Symptoms commonly include increase or decrease in passing urine, abdominal pain, Oedeme, and the appearance of blood or other substance in the urine. Failure of both kidneys to function needs immediate emergency treatment.

(Kidneygee Nung) : kidney stone :- The hard mass of mineral salts ( Calculus/Calculii) responsible for nephrolithiasis.

কিডনীদা নুঙ লৈবা
(kidneyda Nung Leiba) : Nephrolithiasis :- The condition of the presence of stones in the kidney. Such stones can cause pain and blood in the urine, but they may produce no symptoms. Full investigation is undertaken to determine the underlying cause of stone formation. When stones are associated with urinary obstruction and infection they usually required surgical removal.

য়ুংখাক নাবা
(Yungkhak Naba) : Strangury :- The condition of severe pain in the urethra referred from the base of the bladder and associated with an intense desire to pass urine. It occurs when the base of the bladder is irritated by stone or an indwelling catheter. It is also noted in patients with an invasive cancer of the base of the bladder or severe cystitis (inflammation of urinary bladder) or prostatitis (inflammation of prostrate gland or the glands of the organ that surrounds the inner end of male urethra) when the strong desire to urinate is accompanied by the painful passage of a few drops of urine.

য়ুংফু
(Yungphu) : Urinary bladder or bladder :- A sac-shaped organ that has a wall of smooth muscle and stores the urine produced by the kidneys. Urine passes into the bladder through ureters; the release of urine from the bladder is controlled by a sphincer at its junction with the urethra. Bladder neck : it is the outlet of the bladder where it joins the urethra and in males it is in contact with the prostate gland; it is under the control of the automatic nerves of the pelvis. The neck of bladder is the commonest site for retention of urine usually by an enlarged prostate or a urethra stricture/ constriction.

য়ুং হানবা নুংঙাইতবা
(Yung Hanba-Nungngaitaba) : Urination problems :- The urination problems is vested on the abnormality of the urination, especially too little, too much and painful urination. The brief accounts go retention. Normally people pass about 50 ounces of urine during a day on 5/6 occasions, none of them during the night. Such norms are subject to variation depending on the amount of water/liquid drunk and external temperature. In such norm if any one feel the intention to urinate but have not able to do so for several hours, there is probably something wrong, probably this retention ie too little urination. Children birth retention may have kidney stone, an ulcer that may stabbed and closed the outlet or fore skin that is so tight that it impairs urination. Women may exhibit retention after childbirth temporarily or due to nervousness, a fibroid or misplaced uterus. Retention may be symptom of gonorrhoea, any inflammation in urethra urinary duct/tube spasm due to cold or too much alcohol consumption. In order man the explanation is an enlarged prostate or prostatitis. ii) Too much or excess urination :- it implies frequency as well as increased volume of urine. The bladder and kidneys loss their efficiencies. The kidney may no longer concentrate the urine as effectively as did once so that it is thinner and greater in volume. The bladder losses muscular tone and may become inflamd so that it hold less amount of urine. The enlargement of prostate has similar effect. If excess amount of urine for younger adults the cause is confined to diabetes. iii) Painful urination :- Its is cause by inflammation of the urethra, the canal that leads to the outlet of urine.

(Yummangba) : Unholiness of household :- The condition of selling the household in unholy state for any observance, performance and participation of any celebration , ceremony, etc, privately/ individually and collectively.

য়ূম শোংবা
(Yum Shengba) : Sanctification or Consecration of household = the act of purifying a household to attain the state of holiness so as to enable to observe, perform or participation of regious / cultic functions, such as ceremony, celebration, sacrifices, worship, etc privately/individually, publicly/ collectively and/ or socially.
