apne, apnī, Rus. Apno, apas, apan, adj. 1. Apno apno hai, parāyo parāyo. Rus. Your own is your own, strangers are strangers. 2 Apno ghar, apno bāhar. Rus. Your house is my own, inside or out. 3. Dhi, jaṅvāī, bhānjā, yeh tīnoṅ nahīṅ apnā. prov. A daughter, a son-in-law, and a nephew, these three are never one's own. 4. Apnā gū bhojan. Prov. One's own dirt is food. (One's own vices seem virtues).

To hang down one's head, or hide one's face through shame, Sārī shahwat ṭhanḍī ho gaī, apnā sā mūṅh le-kar uṭh gayā. All his heat cooled down, and he rose with his head in a bag. Apnā kīyā pānā, apnī karnī bhar'nī yā bhog'nā, To Suffer the consequences of one's own misdeeds; to reap what one has sown. Na nikleṅ kabhi chāo sāre tumhāre ! Khudā hī se apnā kīyā pāo sāre ! Bār barābar bār hai, tā par chalat byār, Raghubar, pār utārye, apnī or nihār ! Dhoā. The bridge a hair's breadth is, on it the wind doth blow, Oh Ram ! take me across, thine own goodness regard ! apne haq meṅ zahar kar'nā, yā kāṅṭe bo'nā. v.n. To put poison in one's own cup; to sow thistles; to injure oneself. Ai ! lo ! afyūn khāī, qahr kiӯā; aur yeh apne haq meṅ zahr kiӯā . Wom. Shauq. Well ! well ! opium you'hv taken, judgment brough upon your head. See now, another poison in your cup you've gone and mixed ? apne ḍhā'ī chāṅ'val alag chhauṅk'nā yā galā'nā, v.n.

To be meddlesome; to interfere, or meddle with. Koī sune yā na sune, ye apne ḍhāī chāṅval alag galātī hai. Wom. Whether any one listens or not, she will cook her own two and a half grains of rice all to herself, i.e. she will have her own say. Apnī sī sab kuchh kar nā. To do all one can; to do all that lies in one's power. apnī kar-ke na rakh'nā, v.n.
